vectorbt - blazingly fast backtesting and interactive data analysis for quants

I want to share with you a tool that I was continuously developing during the last couple of months.
https://github.com/polakowo/vectorbt

As a data scientist, when I first started flirting with quant trading, I quickly realized that there is a shortage of Python packages that can actually enable me to iterate over a long list of possible strategies and hyper-parameters quickly. Most open-source backtesting libraries are very evolved in terms of functionality, but simply lack speed. Questions like "Which strategy is better: X or Y?" require fast computation and transformation of data. This not only prolongs your lifecycle of designing strategies, but is dangerous after all: limited number of tests is similar to a tunnel vision - it prevents you from seeing the bigger picture and makes you dive into the market blindly.
After trying tweaking pandas, multiprocessing, and even evaluating my strategies on a cluster with Spark, I finally found myself using Numba - a Python library that can compile slow Python code to be run at native machine code speed. And since there were no packages in the Python ecosystem that could even closely match the speed of my own backtests, I made vectorbt.
vectorbt combines pandas, NumPy and Numba sauce to obtain orders-of-magnitude speedup over other libraries. It builds upon the idea that each instance of a trading strategy can be represented in a vectorized form, so multiple strategy instances can be packed into a single multi-dimensional array. In this form, they can processed in a highly efficient manner and compared easily. It also integrates Plotly and ipywidgets to display complex charts and dashboards akin to Tableau right in the Jupyter notebook. You can find basic examples and explanations in the documentation.

Below is an example of doing in total 67,032 tests on three different timeframes of Bitcoin price history to explore how performance of a MACD strategy depends upon various combinations of fast, slow and signal windows:
import vectorbt as vbt import numpy as np import yfinance as yf from itertools import combinations, product # Fetch daily price of Bitcoin price = yf.Ticker("BTC-USD").history(period="max")['Close'] price = price.vbt.split_into_ranges(n=3) # Define hyper-parameter space # 49 fast x 49 slow x 19 signal fast_windows, slow_windows, signal_windows = vbt.indicators.create_param_combs( (product, (combinations, np.arange(2, 51, 1), 2), np.arange(2, 21, 1))) # Run MACD indicator macd_ind = vbt.MACD.from_params( price, fast_window=fast_windows, slow_window=slow_windows, signal_window=signal_windows, hide_params=['macd_ewm', 'signal_ewm'] ) # Long when MACD is above zero AND signal entries = macd_ind.macd_above(0) & macd_ind.macd_above(macd_ind.signal) # Short when MACD is below zero OR signal exits = macd_ind.macd_below(0) | macd_ind.macd_below(macd_ind.signal) # Build portfolio portfolio = vbt.Portfolio.from_signals( price.vbt.tile(len(fast_windows)), entries, exits, fees=0.001, freq='1D') # Draw all window combinations as a 3D volume fig = portfolio.total_return.vbt.volume( x_level='macd_fast_window', y_level='macd_slow_window', z_level='macd_signal_window', slider_level='range_start', template='plotly_dark', trace_kwargs=dict( colorscale='Viridis', colorbar=dict( title='Total return', tickformat='%' ) ) ) fig.show()

https://reddit.com/link/hxl6bn/video/180sxqa8mzc51/player
From signal generation to data visualization, the example above needs roughly a minute to run.

vectorbt let's you
The current implementation has limitations though:

If it sounds cool enough, try it out! I would love if you'd give me some feedback and contribute to it at some point, as the codebase has grown very fast. Cheers.

Social Business Concept

Social Business
I recently had a great discussion on here about having too many ideas. While many warned me not to share my ideas too openly I’ve decided to just get the ideas out. I have tons of ideas in both physical products and software so open to brainstorm on anything! Might make this a thing if I get good feedback. Need to work on my network.
If developers are interested in working on something like this and have understanding in the tech stack I can PM and understand or will work to understand everything we need to to complete implementation. I’m flexible and can pivot on concepts, this idea would develop at a rapid pace conceptually as we discuss.
Idea #4976
Overall Status: Not Started Design Status: Wireframes, Mock API, Documentation Backend: AWS - Lambda, Blockchain on AWS and other AWS Frontend: Vuetify or Flutter
Elevator Pitch
Blockchain based business model focused on allocating and securing shares of a business to a collective of individuals. Much like Bitcoin the blockchain will exist in a finite quantity. A person must be a part of the collective in an active role to own coin. If exiting the coin will be transferred back to the collective and a payout of increased value of coin will be paid in the appropriate currency.
Market
  1. College/University Students interested in starting a business with fellow students.
  2. Individuals looking to experiment with a new business model based on a collective contract secured on the social business blockchain.
  3. Discord, Slack, Reddit, gathering or any other collective group looking for a smart and quick way to register a business and split value amongst each other.
  4. YouTube channels looking to create a collective business organization with its users through agreed terms, ie some exchange as part of
Template Business
Provide business templates to users, based on the type of business. Options such as services, shop, etc with additional sub-classifications. Further details in personal documents.
Templates would be based around inputs required to
Algorithm
Since the coin needs a model to determine value we must consider some of inputs and outputs of a typical business. To rank the success factors of the business we will utilize an OKR model to break down values of the business, these will typically reflect the values and commitments of the business. A business is not successful off of its spirit, so MRR and ARR will be key inputs along with investments. Additional inputs will be considered during application implementation. This is basically a rules engine.
How do investments work? A vote is distributed to the business collective to vote on the value and percent of the company being allocated to an outside company.
A ton more documented, just summarized it off the top of my head.

Trading, psychology, and the benefits of Trading Bots.

Trading, psychology, and the benefits of Trading Bots.

Most beginners who open trading accounts on cryptocurrency exchanges and start independent trading, see only one goal — to earn as quickly as possible.
This is a big mistake. The fact is that trading on the stock exchange will only become truly profitable when it becomes a priority for the person who came to trading. As a rule, to combine trade with any other occupation and at the same time everywhere to succeed will not work.
Trading for a novice trader should be if not the main, then a very important and priority occupation. No need to wait for quick results.
Trading on the stock exchange — the same profession as a doctor, Builder or engineer. The only difference is that she can’t go to University. Just as one learns to be a Builder for five years, so it takes years to learn all the wisdom and secrets of the trade. Trading on the stock exchange is not a Stayer distance, it is a marathon. And the winner is the one who will find the courage to reach the end.
In addition, trade is very much changing a person, showing his qualities, which in everyday life he does not know. Over time, if a trader really wants to succeed in trading, he must completely rethink his life, change the system of values and look at many things, change himself.

Fear as a Component of Trading

The strongest emotion known to man is, of course, fear. What gives rise to the exchange’s fears? We can not predict the behavior of the market, and therefore fully control their money invested in its instruments. In addition to the unknown, when there is no understanding of how to safely get out of a predicament, we are afraid in advance of what traumatized us earlier. Because fear is so emotional, you need to surround yourself with the right facts to drive it away. We need to know for sure that our trading system should not generate more than three consecutive losing trades. Winners plan what to do if their trades fail.
So only a systematic approach will protect us from ourselves. That is why the investment rules written in the trading templates exist not only to communicate the best market opportunities but, more importantly, to protect us from our own internal “demons”.

Emotions in Trading

Seekers of strong emotions, adrenaline forget everything in pursuit of excitement. It follows that a novice investor, overtaken by the “adrenaline curse”, will trade at the slightest opportunity. Yet Dostoevsky, one of the most famous and avid players, said that for him the most acute feeling in life — to win money. The second most acute feeling is to lose them.
Paradoxically, few things give more pleasure than getting rid of the pain and torment of being in a losing trade. This creates a mental internal conflict. Awareness of losses brings “excitement” or a sense of exaltation, and our emotionality does not care what we pay for these experiences losses in the brokerage account. “Adrenaline curse” will drive us into the trade for thrills and extract them from there, regardless of the price.

Intuition on the Exchange

The mind of an intuitive investor tries to construct mental constructions of events. I will try to explain what mental construction is by the example of a chess player’s thinking. The grandmaster understands and remembers the position of each figure in terms of its mental constructions and relationships inherent in the arrangement of figures. The random arrangement of the figures does not fit into any of his mental constructs, and he cannot structure what he sees.
Market patterns on cryptocurrency charts compared to chess compositions include an excessive element of chaos so that they can be interpreted intuitively. Investors with intuition are able to achieve success with the help of” flair”, but this flair often leaves them. The intellect of the rational trader, on the contrary, is manifested in his ability to logically comprehend what is happening to him and to the reality around him and to make on this basis the simplest and most correct decision. Intuition is the ability of a person to penetrate into the essence of things not by reasoning or logical thinking, but by instantaneous, unconscious insight. This is the ability of a trader to “ see the market not with his mind but with his heart.” But, even with a highly developed intuition, you can not act on the market, using only it.This is the trap of intuitive trading — it is impossible to learn.

Fear of Taking Responsibility

What distinguishes successful traders from losers who lose money? First of all look at life. Most people are very passive.
If you ask people if they are happy with their lives, the answer is likely to be negative. On the question of who is to blame, I would say that the fault of the parents who have not given a good education, why now not get a good job; blame the employer who delays wages; blame the dollar, which is rising, then falling; to blame the President and the government who do not pay pensions, etc., In their troubles and problems most of the people blame anyone but themselves.
The same thing happens in the market because the exchange is a mirror of our life. Talk to the trader losing money, ask why he can’t make money in the market. He replied that the fault of the insiders, manipulators, blame the binary options broker too much Commission, to blame the neighbor who suggested the deal, which turned into a heavy loss. In other words, he himself would have been a millionaire long ago, but for a number of reasons, certainly beyond his control, until that happened.
If a person wants to achieve something-not just to lead a life, which are millions of ordinary people (every day to go to work, save five years for a car, twenty years for an apartment, etc.), and to live a full life, so that the financial issue went into the background, to work for fun, not for money, he needs to take responsibility for everything that happens in his life. A person needs to realize that the cause of everything that happens to him is himself. It is this view that allows you to succeed in life and in any business. And trade is no exception.
This is the way successful traders look at life. Once you realize that the cause of all your losses is yourself, and not some mythical manipulators, then the case will move forward.

In the age of digital technologies, when artificial intelligence develops, computer technologies improve, mankind creates various tools to facilitate their own life and everyday life.
If we pay attention to trading, then this direction is actively developing, getting new and unique tools. Since any trader (beginner or experienced specialist) is subject to emotions and various psychological factors, there are tools such as trading bots.

Trading Bots/Robots

A trading robot (bot) is a program that has a certain algorithm. It buys or sells cryptocurrency assets, focusing on the situation in the market. The first trading robots appeared in 2012, and since then they have become more and more perfect. Currently, according to some estimates, 90% of short-term transactions are made either by bots or with their participation.
Bots are usually developed for specific trading platforms. Most cryptocurrency exchanges have an API, and they are generally positive about free auto trading within their platform.
In contrast to the positive attitude to exchange robots, exchanges often have a negative attitude to arbitration robots. On the rules of trade can be found in the official documentation of the exchange, and if there is no such information, the question can be asked directly to technical support. Some people wonder: is it possible to write your bot trader? This is not an easy option, which is suitable only for experienced programmers. After writing, bots are tested for a long time in the market, corrected numerous errors, corrected strategy.
A programmer can also write a bot based on someone else’s code. Some bots are open source, and anyone can find it on GitHub and modify it to fit their needs.
Buy a bot for trading cryptocurrency: there are inexpensive programs for trading (about $ 10), and the cost of more high-quality and complex exceeds more than $ 200 and even $ 1000. There is no maximum price limit for bots, top bots are written to order $ 1500 and more.
Users are usually offered a choice of several tariff plans for crypto bots, from economy to luxury. The inexpensive option includes the most basic trading algorithms, and the expensive one brings maximum profit and works on more complex algorithms. Arbitration bots are a more expensive exchange. Known cases when downloading the bot, people got on your computer virus-miner or virus-cipher, which encrypt all your personal files and demanded a ransom in bitcoin, usually in bitcoin. Naturally, after transferring the ransom to the specified wallet, no decryption of the files occurred.
Trading strategy of stock and arbitrage bots can be very simple, for example:- When the price of cryptocurrency decreases, you need to buy it.- If the price rises, it should be sold.- Or much more complicated. The algorithm can take into account historical data for the last time, indicators, navigate by signals. Quality bots analyze more than a hundred parameters when placing orders.
Some programs do not change the algorithm, and there are bots that can connect or configure additional parameters. This option is well suited for experienced traders who have their own preferences in the style of trading.
A standard bot can perform such actions:- To assess the market situation, to monitor the rate at a given period of time, to make a forecast. In manual trading, it can show signals to the trader.- Create buy or sell orders.- To report on the profit or loss received.
On the example of our IMBA-Exchange, we came to the conclusion that we also need to provide an opportunity for each trader to use bots so that they can be in a comfortable trading environment.
Our exchange specialists are developing their own bot for cryptocurrency trading, which will be an excellent and convenient addition to every trader who wants to eliminate the psychological factor and seeks to get stable earnings without losing personal time.
*******************************************************************************************************
IMBA-Exchange Metronix bot makes life easier for every investor.
For example, Ing. Michael Eder the CEO of IMBA-Exchange, who has 10 years of experience in trading and the last 3 years in cryptocurrency trading, has firmly decided for himself that in the current realities trading on the exchange simply needs bots:
Throughout the time that I have been trading, I can confidently say that today trading bots are necessary for all traders as the main tool. No matter how long you are in exchange trading, but the nature of the person is designed so that under the influence of psychological factors, market conditions, etc. You still make mistakes and, as a result, this leads to financial losses. Our Metronix Trading Bot will help to solve these problems and eliminate negative consequences. A bot is a tool; it has no feelings. He performs a specific task for a given program and performs it almost unmistakably. The task of the trader is to monitor the situation on the market and correctly, as well as at the right time to configure your bot.
Stay with us, in front of you will find many interesting and new.

Financial Modeling for Cryptocurrencies: The spreadsheet that got me my first 1,000% gain

TL;DR: I created a spreadsheet that automates pulling trending cryptocurrencies, recent tweets, and bullish/bearish sentiment into Google Sheets. You can find it here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QtxaDWCoXkIqjPVVkU8DNsx8GBaBd180COwn1CIasa8/copy
I know some crypto users prefer to work in spreadsheets (including myself) so I created a spreadsheet that looks at trending symbols and estimates bullish/bearish sentiment. I never had the time to develop software engineering skills, but the recent launch of a few add-ins has allowed regular joes like myself to harness the power of APIs.

The Beauty of Sentiment Trading

According to Google Trends, the word “sentiment analysis” has been gaining steady traction over the past 5 years.
Sentiment refers to the attitude expressed by an individual regarding a certain topic. This is especially relevant in trading, where so much of the change in price is dictated by emotions:
When it is applied to trading, sentiment can be used (with great potential windfall) as a directional signal to figure out whether you should enter a crypto position within your portfolio.
A way you can utilize sentiment when trading crypto, is to measure the positivity or negativity of a tweet. If recent tweets have been overwhelmingly bullish (aka, the person expects the crypto rise) and movement is beginning to happen in the currency, chances are good that the trend will continue.
Luckily for you, StockTwits already does this with around 225 different cryptocurrencies. And if you can combine the sentiment with trending cryptocurrencies, you can catch the wave right as it forms.

Services Used:

  1. Google Sheets
  2. Spreadstreet Google Sheets Add-in
  3. StockTwits
  4. CoinMarketCap API
Full disclosure: The google sheets add-in is a 14-day free trial, and $15 per month after. However, no one should be refused access on the basis of money (especially true for students and less fortunate). Send me a message, and I will make sure you are not left in the dark.

A note on security

Users have expressed hesitation about running a google sheets add-in on their main computer, so I will attempt to ease those concerns:

How to use the spreadsheet to spot trending cryptocurrencies

You will spend most of your time in the “Analysis” tab, where the trending cryptocurrencies reside.
I am almost always looking at the “By Hour” timeframe, as the “By Day” and “By Week” is usually a missed opportunity…however, those time frames can still be very useful (albeit, for different reasons).
You want to ride the wave on a cryptocurrency under one or both of the following conditions:
  1. The tweets are very recent, preferably within the last hour
  2. Overwhelmingly Bullish sentiment
A Great Example
A Bad Example

Getting the spreadsheet to work for you

1. Install the Spreadstreet add-in for Google Sheets
2. Get sheet ready for use with the add-in
3. After logging into the add-in, refresh the sheet

Troubleshooting

  1. Important Open the template, click the menu Add-ons / Spreadstreet / Help / View in store, and then click Manage and in the dropdown menu click “Use in this document.”
  2. A reload of the entire worksheet fixes quite a few problems.
  3. Deleting and re-pasting the formula in A1 of the “Data” tab fixes things as well.
  4. If all else fails, drop me a message
  5. The “TIMEFRAME” cell in the Analysis tab (B3) refreshes the pull. Change the results for new data.
Some trending coins are not pulling correctly…what’s going on?
StockTwits has a list of ~225 coins it currently supports. See the “TweetInfo” tab for the full list.
I have tried logging in, activating the template with “Use in this document” and refreshed the sheet…still nothing.
Head to the “Data” tab. Delete the formula in cell A1, and repaste the following: =SS(“tickers-coinmarketcap”, headers, “0”, Currency)
Hoping this is something that is useful to everyone, and I am more than happy to help peeps setup the sheet so they can use it. Just send me a message on here.

Community Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Published 22nd March 2019

  1. What’s the status with BLOCKv patents?
A: BLOCKv has not filed for patents. Vatomic Systems, a U.S. company, formed several years prior to BLOCKv, provisionally filed a patent application for its digital objects platform in 2016. BLOCKv licensed this technology from Vatomic to enable it to build out the current capabilities.
  1. When is VEEconomics coming out?
A: VEEconomics will be published before the end of this month.
  1. What happened to the partnership and VEE allocated to the Science Blockchain project?
A: In 2017, as part of the partnership signed with Science Blockchain, BLOCKv allocated $500,000 worth of VEE to support projects over a period of two years as an initiative to incentivize the developer community to use the technology and expand the digital goods economy. We have not received any project requests from Science Blockchain and therefore have also not given out any VEE grants yet.
  1. What VEE has been allocated to partners? Is there a danger that they will never need to go to exchanges to purchase future VEE for campaigns?
A: We don’t disclose specific grants of VEE to partners or developers. However, partners and developers can receive grants from the community pool. We make these grants to kick-start a partner’s engagement on the platform where we can see a real benefit in terms of driving adoption. However, grants are never intended as an alternative to needing to purchase VEE from the market in the medium term, but to ease initial partner R&D and adoption of our platform.
  1. Why are you no longer listing advisors on the web site? Who are your current advisors?
A: It’s natural in the evolution of every company to choose advisors based on its stage of development. BLOCKv’s original advisor line-up was focussed on defining BLOCKv's initial vision & strategy. BLOCKv has moved on significantly in the past eighteen months to a live production platform with rapidly growing adoption.
Engagements with some advisors have ended whereas we continue to work closely with others. To give some examples: • Our advisor Craig Sellars talking about Blockchain being alive with Vatoms at the North American Bitcoin Conference 2019. • BLOCKv showcased Vatoms at Peter Diamandis’ annual keystone event, Abundance 360 for the last two years. • Xin Chung’s direct collaboration with BLOCKv during the Intel Project Engage and NRF butterfly experience.
  1. What is the technical road map? What technical advances can we expect?
A: As per the latest February newsletter, we have updated the Web SDK to version 2.0, launched the Brain Framework in Closed BETA to the community and completely re-architected the data paths within the platform to asynchronous. Forthcoming technical updates will include: Q2 • Brain Framework PUBLIC LAUNCH • Vatom transfer between BLOCKv accounts and Ethereum wallets (and back again) • BLOCKv Unity SDK • Enhanced Developer Portal Admin Functions • Cyclers Framework BETA • Extensive Developer Documentation updates • Demo Vatom Templates Q3 • Cyclers Framework PUBLIC LAUNCH
  1. Does BLOCKv still care about the developer community or are you completely focussed on the big brands / partners?
A: We see the projects for big brands as a strategy to proliferate the usage of virtual goods, generate PR and educate a mass community of how to interact with Vatoms. The positive outcome of these projects is huge for all of those involved with the platform, including the developers, as it exposes a greater audience to the virtual goods economy. That being said, BLOCKv is a platform open to all and we highly appreciate, welcome and encourage developers who want to use our platform to build projects. We understand that earlier in 2018, when we were building up the team, some developer queries may have been missed. If your technical question has gone unanswered, please email [email protected] and we'll do our very best to help (if it's not too late). Please note that if you need support, please contact us via email rather than other channels.
  1. Can I emit VEE to a user from a Vatom?
A: Rewarding a user for sharing a Vatom with another Vatom is a function which is already available and many developers and partners have already used this. For example, we created a business card that comes with 1 VEE credit which can be transferred to an Ethereum address, so there’s nothing to stop a developer on the platform from doing this now. We’re happy to support any developers wishing to use VEE as a mechanism of reward. Please email [email protected] with your request.
  1. Can we be assured that the VEE required to back Vatoms will be bought off exchanges and not via OTC from large holders of VEE? We want to know if VEE investors are going to hold coins that will never have demand on the exchanges.
A: This will be answered in the forthcoming VEEconomics paper.
  1. What are the current active projects and long term partners?
A: In addition to our partnerships with Intel, Austella, Vatom Labs, Varius, MEDA & InCrowd, who are all actively working on implementing multiple projects in Q2 and Q3. These include a ticketing solution for a sports team, a branded game for a major beer distributor and a new product for a global toy company. We’re also recruiting a significant number of both global and local partners to the BLOCKv platform, and will announce these when we are able to, with mutual consent. Moreover, there are also lots of developers within the community who are building projects on the BLOCKv platform that we’re loosely aware of, but we’re not directly involved with, and we’d love to hear more and how we can help, so please share.
  1. Any plans on improving the development community in the near future?
A: We’re working to improve the developer portal with additional documentation, blog posts, and functions, and we’re planning to launch a developer technical forum shortly. We’d also love to support any meetups, and we’re looking at launching a developer web conference, as per suggestions from the channel.
  1. Is the tech ready for developing a product based on it? No breaking changes planned in the near future from a dev consumer perspective?
A: Absolutely. We have numerous production campaigns live currently. There will not be any breaking changes to any features which are out of BETA.
  1. Are developers encouraged on presenting BLOCKv in community events, writings posts, writing clients for the API, etc...?
A: Absolutely. Please reach out to us!
  1. Social Media presence is improving but, are there plans for a better communication regarding project state and answering daily questions? I think the lack of communication on this side has been the main cause for trust issues lately. If only setting an hour a day to be active in chats?
A: We’ve just appointed a new social & community manager, Joana Rizzo. Joana will do her best to respond to reasonable questions raised, or get another team member to respond. KC will be stepping down as Telegram admin and we thank her for her hard work.
  1. Why is Various using EOSIO to build campaigns instead of BLOCKv? And what is the connection between EOSIO and BLOCKv?
A: BLOCKv allows the creation of Vatoms on Ethereum- as well as EOS-based blockchain. Varius has used this functionality to showcase their campaign creation tool, Studio, but all digital object orchestration is via the BLOCKv platform. A tutorial on how to create EOS-based Vatoms will be available on the developer portal.

10 Statistical Price Predictions for 10 Cryptocurrencies — January 2018

TL;DR: I simulated a 1-year movement of 10 top cryptocurrencies using an advanced statistical method called geometric Brownian motion, which you can find below. I also created a spreadsheet to simulate prices of ~24 different cryptocurrencies, which you can download here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eUIgBowJs2NyKw7kYbx5z_VeCOxsMQdNELfbngs4XnY/copy. The sheet utilizes a paid add-in, which I provide free of cost to those who are less fortunate.

THE MYSTERY OF PRICE MOVEMENT

So, you’re sitting at your computer with money to invest.
You have made some good money already in the market, but you want more.
Cryptocurrencies have reached a record $600 billion in market value after the recovery, with the inevitable $700 billion mark right around the corner.
The price movement of top currencies remains a mystery. But it doesn’t have to be.

THE PAIN OF UNCERTAINTY

Cryptocurrencies are volatile, irrational beasts.
Simple methods of forecasting grossly oveunderestimate the potential of a volatile currency.
For example, moving averages are used frequently to estimate future prices. Moving averages, however, suffer from many pitfalls that make them poor estimators of volatile markets.
Every great and successful investor has a plan. You will add one more tool to your arsenal today.

A BETTER METHOD FOR ESTIMATING CRYPTO PRICES

In my prior article about estimating the movement of Bitcoin Prices, I spoke of a method that is used frequently in the stock world to estimate prices.
This method is a Monte Carlo simulation using the geometric Brownian motion model.
I won’t cover off on the full methodology here, but essentially I am going to:
  1. Get historical daily prices for 10 top cryptocurrencies
  2. Calculate daily returns
  3. Simulate a year
  4. Simulate a year many times
By the end of the article, you will have the following:
A note on forecasting, simulations, and recommendations: Monte Carlo simulations are to be used as guidelines and tools, not as gospel. I am not offering financial or investing advice.

ETHEREUM

What is Ethereum?

Ethereum is a decentralized platform that runs smart contracts: applications that run exactly as programmed without any possibility of downtime, censorship, fraud or third party interference.
Ethereum has been busy recently. Multiple steps have been pushed in motion for the upcoming large change — reaching a new consensus method.
From Jordan Daniel at ethnews.com:
Ethereum’s Byzantium hard fork was only one half of a two-part process designed to transition the decentralized application platform to a new method for reaching consensus — proof-of-stake. The next hard fork, called Constantinople, was recently discussed during an Ethereum core developer meeting and could include Vitalik Buterin’s Casper update.

One-Year Simulation

1-Year Simulation of Ethereum Prices and Returns

One-Year Simulated 1,000 Times

1-Year Ethereum Prices Simulated 1,000 times

Verdict

We can be 95% certain that Ethereum prices will fall between $193, and $8,027 with a median of $1,267.

EOS

Verdict

We can be 95% certain that EOS prices will fall between $0.98, and $1,386 with a median of $33.

LITECOIN

What is Litecoin?

Litecoin’s claim to fame is faster transaction processing times. It uses a scrypt-based mining proof-of-work algorithm to target the regular computers and GPUs most people already have.
The ability to target regular computers and GPU’s happens to be a huge differentiator from the crowded mining population of Bitcoin.

One-Year Simulation

1-Year Simulation of Litecoin Prices and Returns

One-Year Simulated 1,000 Times

1-Year Litecoin Prices Simulated 1,000 times

Verdict

We can be 95% certain that Litecoin prices will fall between $42, and $12,241 with a median of $745.

OMISEGO

What is OmiseGO?

OmiseGO is building a couple of things:
  1. Decentralized exchange
  2. Liquidity provider mechanism
  3. Clearinghouse messaging network
  4. Asset-backed blockchain gateway
OmiseGO is not owned by any single one party. Instead, it is an open distributed network of validators which enforce behavior of all participants.
According to Blocknight:
Also, OmiseGo counts Vitalik Buterin (Ethereum), and Joseph Poon (Lightning Network Co Author) among their advisers. Joseph Poon is actually billed as author of the OmiseGo whitepaper.
Those are some pretty big names.

One-Year Simulation

1-Year Simulation of OmiseGO Prices and Returns

1-Year NEO Prices Simulated 1,000 times

Verdict

We can be 95% certain that NEO prices will fall between $3, and $3,076 with a median of $115.

RIPPLE

What is Ripple?

Ripple is a system created for banks to enable immediate payments and lower costs.
The vision of the Ripple creators is to allow a bank transfer in a few seconds (instead of the horribly annoying 2–3 business days).
Of note, is that Ripple is a U.S. based company. From the xrphodor blog:
Ripple is a US-based company.
Why is this an important point to consider? A US-based company like Ripple is subject to some very stringent laws regarding securities trading and money transmission. These include requirements that define how Ripple might interact with crypto markets and both institutional and retail crypto traders.

One-Year Simulation

1-Year Simulation of Ripple Prices and Returns

One-Year Simulated 1,000 Times

YOUR VERY OWN FORECASTING TOOL

Since i’m so nice, I went ahead and created a forecasting tool for you to use:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eUIgBowJs2NyKw7kYbx5z_VeCOxsMQdNELfbngs4XnY/copy

WHAT IT PULLS:

GETTING THE SPREADSHEET TO WORK FOR YOU

Install the Spreadstreet add-in for Google Sheets
Get sheet ready for use with the add-in
After logging into the add-in, change the dropdown reference

TROUBLESHOOTING

  1. Important Open the template, click the menu Add-ons / Spreadstreet / Help / View in store, and then click Manage and in the dropdown menu click “Use in this document.”
  2. A reload of the entire worksheet fixes quite a few problems.
  3. Deleting and re-pasting the formula in A1 of the “Candles” tab fixes things as well.
  4. If all else fails, drop me a message
  5. The “SELECT CURRENCY” cell in the Analysis tab (B3) refreshes the pull. Change the results for new data.
When I try and change a coin, I get a #DIV/0 error
Login to the Spreadstreet add-in, and keep the window open. Try changing the dropdown again.
I have tried logging in, activating the template with “Use in this document” and refreshed the sheet…still nothing.
Head to the “Data” tab. Delete the formula in cell A1, and repaste the following: =SS(“candles-bitfinex”, ticker, “1D”, “hist”, true, “”, “”, “”, “0”)

CONCLUSION

Whether you are investing in Bitcoin, Ethereum, or SpankCoin, it is imperative to have a plan. Most notably, a worst-case scenario.
The Monte Carlo simulation is a fantastic way to get a range of prices for a cryptocurrency. And after reading this, you can see how the final values change drastically depending on what you are looking at.
I urge you to download the sheet and try your own hand at simulating different coins. The sheet is setup to pull in every single coin from CoinMarketCap.
Cheers, and happy hunting

Users have expressed hesitation about running a google sheets add-in on their main computer, so I will attempt to ease those concerns:

What it pulls:

AN OVERVIEW OF THE SECTIONS

The Dashboard
Changing the timeframe
Changing the cryptocurrency
Instructions Tab
Summary Tab

  4. If all else fails, drop a line to [email protected]. He will get you running in no time.

DEVCON2 report: Day Three - Final day

previous days
Question: the 3 days of devcon are over. Are people interested in reports on the next 3 days of international Blockchain week (demo day + 2 days of global Blockchain summit) http://www.blockchainweek2016.org
`
Event update
The buzz during the day was around the "stick puzzle" that Bok Khoo was giving out to people. It is just a stick, with a loop of string. He gets you to turn away, he uses "the trick" to put it onto your bag and then you try to get it off.
The WeChat channel was just filled with everyone asking where they can get it, and the screaming that they can't figure it out. Only about 5 people reported they were able to solve it (I haven't yet)

Sessions
I'm biased, but I thought the announcement from Microsoft with the update of cryptlets was a big deal. The morning sessions covered a few different oracle systems, the afternoon had lots of IPFS sessions.
Microsoft - A Lap around Cryptlets

Announcing: Bletchley v1 Distributed Ledger stack V1 is a private Ethrerum consortium, that you can spin up for your own enterprise / group
http://imgur.com/olwwd36
Cryptlets are being developed to help with security, identity, etc. How do you get trusted external data feeds injected into the Blockchain? Doing things on a specific interval (every 15 mins) When price of something hits a threshold (oil goes above $40/barrel) Secure IP protected algorithms, but still share with blockchain network. Use libraries for common platforms (.Net, Java, etc)
Cryptlets vs Oracle Cryptlets will have a marketplace on Azure that will allow you to purchase and utilise
Use case: Trigger on an event Wake up on 4pm, if market was open that day, then give me the price of gold for that day.Get signature of attested server, attested sender.
Use case: Control Using smart contract like a traditional DB. Declare data you are keeping track of, and the functions/"stored proc" to update that data. Cryptlet runs off chain, and can be scaled up.
http://imgur.com/ysgL8S2
Utility cryptlet. Use an attribute in solidity contract with cryptlet details Developer references at design time the cryptlet they want the contract to call Contract cryptlet, deploy the cryptlet at same time as contract.
Why would you want Azure to do this? SGX allows you to create "secure enclaves", can have complete isolation on the hardware chip where it is not modifable. Provides a secure enclave at the CPU level. Can give full attestation right down to the silicon. Will be provided as a enclave container on Azure. Will be released for .NET core CLR first, then other languages. Can create cryptlet libraries that you can scale and put into the Azure marketplace. An ecosystem for developers & ISVs to consume and publish.
Bletchley v1 released today will let you spin up a private consortium. Before today, it took a long time to try and deploy a private consortium (can take weeks to read doco, Now takes 5 minutes to deploy! Creates a private consortium, puts each member in its own separate subnet

Mist Vision and Demo I was too busy sharing the release posts of Microsoft project bletchey v1, missed this talk. It did look interesting, I will watch this one later. Idea: Reward for bandwidth. Providing connection could replace mining as entrance point for desktop computers. Allow you to have a trickle so you can trigger smart contracts. Standardised backends, so that you can swap out the underlying node between geth, blockapps, etc.
Web3.js
https://github.com/ethereum/web3.js Etehereum JS API Smart conracts are EVM opcodes, Helps translates calls to JSON RPC calls. Helps do the ABI encoding when sending data from JS to EVM It kept on growing, many different utility functions being thrown in. Is time to clean it up and be refactored.
They are now building a NEW web3.js The communication will be socket based, will enable subscriptions. Everything will be based on promises to subscribe to events, like log events. Bunch of other newer cleaner methods and ways to do things like deploying contracts.
Smart contract security
Was a very good postmorteum of The DAO and things that could be done to mitigate it in the future.
An issue with The DAO was trying to do a massive jump from centralisation all the way to full decentralisation. Meant no one could step up and make a decision on how to save it. We need to make smaller steps towards full decentralisation as we learn as a community how to do this. Same security patterns as yesterday's talks: check invarients, beware 1024 call stack depth, reentry exploit (update state BEFORE executing calls), timestamps are manipulatable. Updateable contracts. Who can update it? Community multisig? We need better rools: formal verification, compiler warnings, improved IDEs, trusted libraries, excape hatches
Conclusion: It is still very early days in this space, be careful.
A Provably Honest Oracle Model: Auditable Offchain Data Gathering & Computations
Oracalize is the most widely used oracle (until everyone starts using Microsoft Azure cryptlets ;-) ) Contract calls Oracalize contract with the data they want, off chain they see this get the data, Oracalise then trigger their contract externally, which does a callback to your contract with the data. Can use external notary servers. Can get proof from multiple external services to get a higher level of confidence about data (e.g. stock price from a few feeds). Off-chain (auditable_ computation) AWS sandbox 2.0. Put the execution package onto IPFS, AWS gets it and executes it, signs it.
iEx.ec: Fully Distributed Cloud Thanks to the Ethereum Blockchain
http://iex.ec/ Provides blockchain based execution environments Global market for computing resources. Idea is to do what we did before with "grid computing" use the idle capacity of computers. But this time do a trickle of micropayments. Allows people to harness this global power to execute their tasks in a global "distributed cloud".
The Final frontier: The company smart conract
http://otonomos.com/ Helping companies to incorporate on the blockchain.
Smart oracles
https://github.com/smartoracles Connecting to external resources is difficult. Hard to try and use external currencies (like a bank account / fiat money) to make transactions. Could hook in paypal, HSBC, wells fargo, etc. Can provide your own payment services as an API to a smart oracle for smart contracts to consume. Do off chain data storage by calling smart oracle API Roadmap: more data sources & more payment methods
IPFS & Ethereum: Updates
https://Ipfs.io IPFS is AMAZING, seriously go watch the full 1 hour talks Juan has given in previous years.
Current web has current issues. Centralisation, etc. IPFS is a new hypermedia transfer protocol Content can be retrieved not from specific servers, but instead via it's hash so that it can come from anywhere in the network (maybe from the person next to you who has cached it). It is highly modular, all of the transfer protocals, routing, naming, etc. are all swapable Is available as GO-IPFS & now JS-IPFS Means now you can run IPFS in the browser IPFS was great for static content, but not so great for dynamic content. Low latency pub/sub protocol will help with dynamic data. Created a distributed peer to peer chat app using this new dynamic content protocol. IPLD a common link-tree hash format Will be able to use IPFS to retrieve ethereum blockchain blocks DIRECTLY Can use IPFS as a package manager to retrieve them in a distributed manner.
Many projects are using Ethereum & IPFS Uport, Digix, Infura, Ujo, Eris, Blockfreight. Filecoin was created as a way to try and incentivize nodes to keep files longer time. People rent out hdd space to earn filecoin. Exchange bitcoin/filecoin. Use filecoin to store files in network. Filecoin is going to be built on top of the public Ethereum blockchain, as a virtual blockchain / token.
IPFS Libp2p & Ethereum networking
Network connectivity between any 2 nodes can be difficult. Censorship, bandwidth, network issues, etc. Having to deal with different networking topologies and access. Libp2p & Devp2p is different. Devp2p is for Ethereum. LIbp2p is modular, can swap out components to change network access, encryption methods, etc. Can build up a MEGA mesh network, by utilising traditional wired internet, radio, bluetooth between some nodes. Web browser using web socket, to a node, which routes across network, to zigbee to a IoT device. Libp2p & Devp2p could merge and augment each other. Could create the libp2p components to replace the devp2p bits Any 2 nodes that speak the same protocol can communicate and be a part of the network chain. Experiment. They took the browser based version of EVM. Then used Libp2p to talk to the Ethereum network. Had a complete ethereum node running in a browser.
Uport
https://uport.me/ Universal identity platform Current challenges: key management. Ux for average person. Dapps via mobile. Identity and data ownership. How do you keep a consistent identity, even if you lose a key. Have some multisig contracts that you can use to keep track. Social recovery, use your friends to attest it is really you. Keep private key on mobile, do transactions on the desktop, scan a QR code to sign the transaction on your phone and send it off.
A Deep Dive into the Colony Foundation Protocol
It is an open source governance protocol built on Ethereum Problem with voting is how to prevent Sybil attacks. Votes are weighted by a reputation score. Reputation is non-transferable that can only be earned. Total weighted voting helps mitigate this.
Chain orchestration tooling & smart contract package management
Eris is tooling for developers. Package manager to build your own blockchain. Can compose a chain, e.g. geth + tendermint consensus. Init, install, do. Can easily install on Mac/bew, linux/apt-get, Windows/choco
The Golem Project: Ethereum-based market for computing power
http://www.golemproject.net/ Anyone can make an offer to sell computing power. e.g. Distributed rendering Want to create a standard framework that anyone can use to submit and process jobs.
Status: Integrating Ethereum Into Our Daily Lives
https://status.im Want to get ethereum everywhere. "Mist for Mobile" Everyone is using their mobile phones for everything, but mostly using instant messaging. What would Ethereum in a IM window look? Created a IM mobile app that has a local geth node. tart up, it asks you to create a password, it generates a pub/private pair. Then can send messages via whisper, and the messages are signed with your public key. Can load Dapps up in the local webview and interact with them. Allows you to create "chat Dapps", that you interact with via text. Like chatbots
Maker Ecosystem Overview
www.Makerdao.com Dai: seeking stability on blockchain. Stablecoin engine: smart contract that holds collateral reserves and controls the Dai lifecycle. MKR: open source community managing risk of the system In the last year, investing in a solid technical core. More slow and audit things. Moving into the next phase of stablecoin development. Their latest project is the "Simplecoin project" Meeting Thereum community's need for stability. An independent platform for creating centrally administered simple stablecoins. Issues create their own rule sets: Collateral types, participant whitelists, security parameters. Example: Shrutebucks. The only people who own it are Dwight, Jim & Pam. They backed it with 1/3 ETH 1/3 DGX 1/3 DUSD.
Orbit. A distributed peer to peer app on IPFS
https://github.com/haadcode Created a full distributed chat room, itself distributed through IPFS. It is integrated with uPort for identification Using uPort allows you to verify that you are talking to the correct person in the chat channel. All their messages are signed with their public keys He also created a full distribited twitter clone, using uport for the identity as well. Orbit-db key value store DB that stores its data on IPFS. Eventually consistent Appends data to the DB, an event is sent to those subscribed on pub/sub so they can see the latest root hash. Based on CRDT Ethereum + Pubsub + CRDTs + IPFS = super power primatives to build dynamic distributed apps
Development considerations with distributed apps. Need to ensure that apps work offline. No centralised servers. No data silos. Provide integration path.
Future work: could you use uPort for ACL like permissions? Mobile use cases, how to make it work nicely on mobiles
Building scalable React Dapp architecture
https://github.com/SilentCicero/react-dapp-boilerplate React + Ethereum He has a configured boilerplate template. Has contract scaffolding. Enforced contract Linting/testing. Wallet generation/identity. Preconfigured web3 instance. UI: Mature react arhitecture "react boilerplate". Prices listed in USD with ETH/btc via kraken api. A basic multi-contract example Dapp. Offline first, dapp runs without internet. Uses Redux. State models in UI & blockchains work well. PostCSS, CSS Modules, sanitize.cs. Redux, immutableJS, reslect, redux-saga, i18n, redux-router. Web3, ethdeploy, dapple, solium, eth-lightwallet, chaithereum, ethereumjs0-testrpc Enforced contract testing in 2 languages.
Ethereum for Enterprise (BlockApps Strato)
Trying to make sure that Ethereum stays relevent to enterprise development. Why do you need a blockchain WITHIN an org, shouldn't they trust each other? Well different departments may not, they may reconcile differently, and can help automate/orchestrate between them. Blockchain is the "killer app" for cloud financial services. Legacy infrastructure, batch prossing, etc are all restricting fintech from progressing. Blockchain can happen in real time, can replace legacy. Ethereum is very flexible and programmable, works well. There are others based on Bitcoin (like Hyperledger). Ethereum + Blockapps = Extreme productivity + Proven Technology. Blockapps is extending Ethereum for Enterprise. Runs very well on Azure Enterprises don't want all their data exposed on public chain. Blockapps helps solve data privacy and scaling with multichain fabrics.

Almost done with beta...

Note to rat4: I will send you the source code in python. I want to make your coin the best coin. Check your email if you read this reddit...
Working on my software still doing some fixes and testing. Will do a beta here pretty soon. I need some coders who know how to convert Bitcoin to Blackcoin in the client. Somebody familiar with the protocols. I use electrum will need them to change that over to blackcoins blockchain. Bitmessage integration seems to work just fine. Everything is good. Any takers on this? You should be a very good dev. I want somebody who can turn this around in days or a week max. This will benefit us all the faster it gets converted. Looks like there is nobody selling BC anymore either so this is the worlds biggest bull trap. We are set to take off. Hang tight fellas. What do you think guys? As requested you guys are the first ever to lay eyes on this. Very excited about this. It will change everything. Note: there will be a tab for a decentralized USD/BTC market. Its almost finished too but I want to focus on getting this beta part done before adding the tab. The tab is the foundation for NightTrader. NightTrader will be a decentralized bulletin board for purchases and will be ported into a decentralized exchange with no middle coin cross platform.
Say hello to BitHalo and BlackHalo! If you sell your coins at this point i only pity you hahahaha. Additionally this is just my warm up game. Since nobody took initiative to build a social media api with me yet. I will have all this stuff included in future versions of the client. Wait until you see how far I am taking this. Right now its just contracts soon there will be all kinds of templates. I basically dont sleep anymore. I just code.
Sent rat4 the documentation with the whitepaper. Still keeping the whitepaper a secret until release. Want to get some devs here. Who can port this over? Its in python.

To quell doubt take a look at this address and notice the outputs those are the denominations being split. Bitmessage addresses hidden in the 5500 satoshis. Contract negotations already tested with the wallet that got sent 5500 satoshis 3KkDHs4kWXPJeHx5HUnsEk34MvLppFWvuY. It worked. Rat4 has a copy of the whitepaper now so he can confirm all this. I really just want a hand. I explained I am working alone. You can follow that address too and watch as I test the smart contracts in the upcoming days. I moved a bitcoin over just to do it. This is real money no testnet bullshit. I want to add also, I am NOT asking for donations! The nice guy who offered to donate is cool and I really am thankfull but honestly I want a dev who can convert this quickly as I am a little slower since I like to test everything thoroughly.

Moonetize Team AMA Interview with Newton Founder Xu Jizhe

Hosts: Can and Ender Guest: Xu Jizhe (Newton Project Founder)
Can: Dear community, we have collected your questions and today we will be asking them to Newton founder Xu Jizhe. A brief information about me; I’m Can. I’m the co-founder of Moonetize. Moonetize is a team of blockchain enthusiasts and community managers providing various services to startups and ICO’s. I have a B.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Germany. I’m also a translator and I speak English, German and Turkish. I value the community economy philosophy very much and thus I’ve been following Newton Project from the start and it's an honor to work with Newton. Since May 2018, I’ve been working closely with Newton Team. I’m translating Newton’s documents into Turkish. I’m also one of the admins of Newton Turkey Community on Telegram. https://t.me/newtonturkey
Ender: Hello Mr.Xu. Let me introduce myself too. I am the co-founder of Moonetize Crypto Solutions which cares blockchain community growth of this ecosystem as much as Newton. I began my career with an electronic engineering education and continued as a network engineer, a consultant and an instructor. I developed projects with the design and software of embedded systems and received awards in various competitions. I was the head of my university's IEEE branch (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) for 3 years and I took part in the IEEE global meetings. For nearly 10 years I have been providing Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto Networks, HPE official training and consulting services. I have been working as a Palo Alto Networks' Professional Engineer. Thanks to my training knowledge from Founder Institute (fi.co), I work on the applications of new technologies to our daily life. In this respect, I closely monitor the blockchain technology and produce training contents. I am currently working as a blockchain consultant with the projects from Switzerland and Turkey. Projects are in insurance and e-sport market. Lately, I attended the Node Conference of Newton Project in Macau. I was on the stage with the other valuable members for a little forum about Community Management and Growth. But unfortunately no chance to meet with you in face. Glad to see you are here and engaging with the community.
Can: The procedure will be like this; I have a list of questions which I've gathered from community. I will ask them one by one to Mr.Xu. Here is the first question from one of our community members; How exactly do human to human and human to machine nodes work ? What’s the logic and idea behind these nodes ? How are they related to community economy ?
Xu: Just came back from a meeting. Thank you, Moonetize team. I love your name. First of all, before answering the first questions, thank you so much, Moonetize team is the first rotation team to manage the Newton international Telegram community. Newton is a free (as in freedom), open, and international project, including the community, the technology and the economy model. one of the basic values is Community first. so the rotation management is one of very specific ways to make this happen. I'd like to spend more and more budget to the community. One of the things that stands out about humanity is their rich emotions and the uncertainty that these emotions cause. Through the use of blockchain, tokens and other technologies, we can break through organizational boundaries and geographical restrictions, and establish a new kind of open, distributed, and autonomous organization. In this environment, each person is an independent node, and can elect community nodes around the world through voting mechanisms, ensuring more effective large-scale collaboration and innovation. Compared to human beings, one of the most important features of a machine is certainty. we can build a machine network with a credit system and an economic model. Each machine becomes a network node and performs corresponding functions. Human nodes and machine nodes cooperate to form a human-machine community, giving full play to human creativity and machine certainty to innovate and accumulate consensus. In this way, the community continuously develops.
Can: I see. Good point. Humans have emotions which may cause unwanted and biased decisions sometimes. On the other hand, machines are free of emotions and they are exact decision takers.
Xu: Yes. For most blockchain projects, they only have machine nodes usually. In this case, the parameter of governance is single usually, for example, hash rate, stake. In this case, the whole (P2P) network is not strong enough from the governance point of view.
Can: Most important unique feature of humans is creativity and of machines is certainty. Therefore, by combining the two best aspects of each (creativity + certainty) we can get an amazing system actually. Wow. I understand now. We should never forget about the "creativity" of humans. Since creativity and development is what brought us to 21. Century. We should value this. Therefore, combining human + machine nodes seems to be the differing point for Newton compared to all the other blockchain projects out there like you said.
Xu: When I wrote back to a professor introduced by Theo to me, I wrote: Most blockchain projects are trying to setup the incentive rules and a few of them works well, for example, Bitcoin. At the same time, there are more and more trouble for them, because the elements of the governance is single usually, for PoW, it’s computing HASH rate, for PoS, it’s token/money. My ideas for Newton is we should and have to setup a systemic mechanism including the governance, collaboration, and incentives, by code usually. And finally we have a human-machine community with a totally new economy model. In my office, I have a copy of the Declaration of Independence written by native language, I think it provide the certainty with a low efficiency for the society then the prosper will come. I think blockchain is the Declaration written by code in 21st century to generate the certainty with a very high efficiency, this will change the world totally, and it includes the token usually, so Sir Isaac Newton will think it’s 21st century’s alchemy also, so I name my project Newton. (The professor is an expert about the constitution.)
Can: Let’s go on with our second question; Why did you decide on building a project related to community economy ? What makes you think community economies will be relevant and powerful in the near future ? Could you please enlighten us with your ideas and your rationale for building an ecosystem aimed at community economy ?
Xu: Throughout history, we have found that in the agricultural age, royalty dominated the distribution of values, and they were the center of their world, namely the world in which they were Conqueror. In the industrial age, capital has become the axis of value creation and distribution. Value creators other than capitalists can only enjoy limited returns. With the advent of monopolies, the situation has become more and more unequal, with capitalists taking excessive profits, and the gap between rich and poor growing ever wider. Therefore, in the industrial age, the center of interest of the world is the Capitalist. So today, we’re already in the Internet age. Over the past few years, the mobile Internet has made it easier to do business anywhere in the world, and it has already produced a few rich people who do not rely on capital. But this is not the end, and this minority should become a majority, including every one of us present. In this context, a new center of interest is about to be born – the Community. Looking back at history, from the agricultural era to today, logistics and information flows have been developing in the direction of decentralization. The transformation of the axis of capital flow from Conqueror to Capitalist itself is also a kind of decentralization. Therefore, don't believe that “decentralization” is just our dream - It’s a historical destiny.
Can: Decentralization is bound to happen. It's not a dream and we already see that capitalists can lose power and will lose power. Great point. I believe that in future people will not have to rely on just a few selected politicians and governments. Internet and Blockchain along with decentralization will cause freedom to spread over the entire planet.
Ender: Actually building economy based on community is a brave move. Everyone wants that but no one acts like this way. I hope Newton will lead the community how to engage well with the new ecosystem which everyone can get benefits directly from economic growth :)
Can: One of our community members is asking if Newton is going to be like a blockchain based Alibaba. Is this accurate ?
Xu: Newton is the infrostructure for the community economy, NewMall is a DApp on it. So Newton is NOT blockchain based Alibaba, NewMall is.
Can: Newton seems to be strongly focused in South-East Asia (China, South Korea etc.) Does Newton plan to extend their operations in Europe / North America ? Will there be a Newton Office in Europe / North America. What are your marketing and expansion plans outside of Asia ?
Xu: Newton will extend their operations in Europe / North America. NewMall will launch an English version.
Can: Did you decide on which countries in EU ? Will the operation extension of Newton EU start in 2019 ?
Xu: Until now, we don’t have specific plan. But I think 2019.
Can: Newton has recently started an official OTC group in China. Soon an international OTC group will be launched. We don’t get to see official OTC groups with other blockchain projects. What was your rationale when starting an official OTC group ? What are the advantages of OTC in comparison to an official exchange listing ?
Xu: OTC will be an important part of trading. Trading on exchanges will be difficult for NewMall sellers as they are not always familiar with blockchain. Compared to an exchange, OTC is even more efficient. Newton’s customer service representatives play the role of guarantor. In future, the OTC function will be embedded in NewPay.
Can: People find OTC business risky but with a trusted guaranteer this should not be a problem. Me and my partner Ender have also done OTC business as trusted intermediaries. Good to hear Newton will be the guaranteer. What is the rationale for delaying exchange listing to March and starting OTC ? Newton could get listed on an exchange like Huobi, Okex, Bibox, Gate.
Xu: In general, if a token/coin had a really good demands, it has to or should have a OTC market. For example; BTC. For the total BTC trading, OTC has 60% market share. 40% in the exchanges. But for most other tokens, they don’t have OTC usually. Because the real requests is very small usually. Secondly, for Newton, we’ll bring more people who don’t have much experiences about cryptocurrency before by NewMall. Especially for the sellers, in this case, OTC has better trading experiences. NewPay 1.1 will include OTC. It will be available end of February 2019 or beginning of March. It’s just like Huobi OTC.
Can: Will the OTC trade proceed over a smart contract or will there be a Newton Team member as a guaranteer? Will the guaranteer be human or a machine (code)
Xu: By code, but not smart contract.
Can: One of our community members wanted to describe Newton in just one sentence to his friend however he could not so he wanted us to ask you. How would you briefly describe Newton in just one sentence ?
Xu: Newton is Infrastructure for the Community Economy.
Can: The E-Commerce background of Newton Team is quite strong. Do you plan to focus solely on E-Commerce through blockchain ? What would be the advantages of using NewChain for E-Commerce industry ?
Xu: Blockchain-based online retailer NewMall is just one of our use cases. Firstly, transaction costs for sellers will be much lower, and consumers, service providers and other participants can get the incentive of Newton tokens according to how much they contribute. Secondly, user data is a new digital asset for users, and can be managed in the NewPay app. Users truly their own data and can take control by authorizing and pricing the data. Uninformed data leakage is prohibited. Thirdly, users can use NewPay to set whether to accept marketing promotions, as well as the kind of ad, price range, etc. Advertisers set marketing plans through a selection of marketing smart contract templates built into the system, including target users, incentive models, settlement methods, and adjustment rules. Merchants can achieve accurate advertising and peer-to-peer settlement with users, avoiding advertising fraud.
Ender: Which applications besides NewMall will be launched on NewChain ?
Xu: We will start building the worldwide developer community soon and many DApps will be developed based on NewChain.
Ender: I heard your Open API, which is a key point for building a developer community like Ethereum did. Where do you see Newton Project in 5 years ?
Xu: Our Open API is called HEP. Hyper Exchange Protocol. It’s introduced in the Whitepaper. I hope we have a very big worldwide community, I can’t tell the exact numbers. Community will benefit from the growth.
Ender: Fair enough, we believe in Newton. Would you like to add anything to your words ?
Xu: In 2019, the most important for Newton is to build a free and open global project. And hope more and more people to be involved in Newton. Thank you all.
Moonetize Team: Thank you very much Mr.Xu for your time and taking care of the blockchain community.

What is DADI?

DADI: Decentralized Architecture for a Democratic Internet
DADI Official Video
DADI is built on the Ethereum Blockchain using an ERC-20 token allowing the use of smart contracts and thus improving transparency. Think of the DADI network as seen in the likes of more centralised Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure but on a decentralised cloud infrastructure supported by the contributors of the network (masternodes). The DADI network will be widely distributed on which will be an increasingly large number of nodes which are location aware and located at the edge of the network, this increases efficiency and also helps to prevent a single point of failure. DADIs decentralised cloud platform focuses on currently 11 web services (see below) which will feature in the DADI marketplace as intelligent apps.
One way of thinking about this is that the DADI nodes are on a side chain running the DADI software. Contributors stake (PoS) their DADI tokens on the ETH network to secure a node within the DADI network. The node uses Proof of Work (PoW) and Proof of Availability (PoA) to reward contributors with DADI tokens. More information on this in the Masternode section of this post. This means anyone with a device, laptop, phone, home router (a smart device with an internet connection) will be able to earn income by providing spare compute.
DADI is extremely secure and resistant to common attacks such as DDOS and Brute Force and also prevents malicious data entering the network making all of the web services much safer from malicious attack.
DADI has been in development for over 5+ years (yes, 5 years!) and already providing services to some of their top tier clients. These customers will slowly be moved across to mainnet over time.

DADI CDN - Network Ready
DADI CDN is the first product to launch on the DADI network and is currently live on mainnet.
What is CDN?
A Content Delivery Network (CDN) or Content Distribution Network (CDN). DADI facilitates the seamless delivery of image, audio and video assets for digital products accessed across a range of devices in multiple contexts. CDN's deliver content to end users via nodes deployed in multiple locations.
This allows to reduce bandwidth costs, improve end user experience and increase availability of content. With DADI being able to distribute these nodes in a decentralised manner, nodes are likely to be located much closer to the end user.
Here is the DADI CDN sandbox environment for some of the features: https://docs.dadi.cloud/sandbox/dadi-cdn

Masternodes and Requirements

DADI Official Documentation
DADI masternodes are built on a 3 tier system to perform different functions required for the network. There are three key nodes within the DADI Network: Stargates, Gateways and Hosts. Availability of running certain nodes comes due to network requirements. As the demand increases so will the required amount of masternodes.
INITIAL On-Boarding of Masternodes:
The first wave of nodes will consist of the DADI Founding Node.
This includes the onboarding of c.500 Hosts, c.15 Gateways and c.2 Stargates during Q3 and Q4. These figures are designed to provide enough capacity for early network demand and are subject to change.

Masternode ROI

Note: A calculator to work this out is in development.
A common question is in regards to the ROI of the nodes. The expected returns are shown in the document linked above, but to further understand potential ROI you must first understand how the network rewards contributors.
DADI consumers purchase DADI services via a currency of their choice and this is then converted in real time to the DADI token. This revenue generated is then split between 3 bodies: Nodes, the Ecosystem fund and the DADI Foundation.
Revenue Distribution
The masternodes work on 3 different models:
  1. Proof of Work + Consensus
  2. Proof of Stake
  3. Proof of Availability
The more work your node does (the monitored requests and traffic to your node), with the amount staked (which is limited to avoid centralisation and additional nodes would be required beyond a certain point) and how available your node is on the network (its uptime) determines its reward payout. The larger masternodes (the Stargate especially) require a high uptime and may be penalised if downtime is not during a maintenance window, the hosts do not have such a heavy requirement.
So as a result, the consumers purchase services through DADI, the revenue is then distributed at 85% to all masternodes based on the results of the nodes Proof of Work, Proof of Stake and Proof of Availability a payout is performed monthly.
The PoS requirement is reviewed per quarter and may be lower as the network grows to allow more nodes to be onboarded.

Masternode Setup

DADI nodes are currently in staged on-boarding until the network is publicly available, this will be known as Constellation and is due Q4 2018/Q1 2019.
The masternode setup will be made to be simple and allow for maintenance windows when downtime is required such as hardware changes, update schedules or other.
You will also be able to monitor performance of your DADI nodes from your account.
Here is a sneak peak of the setup window:
Setup Screen (preview)

Masternode Types

DADI Stargate

· Purpose: Stargates provide the domain name system that makes Gateway/Host resources addressable. They are responsible for the secure running of the network. They monitor resources and control the payout contract.
· 500k DADI tokens
· Restricted availability
· Voting rights
Minimum specification:
High bandwidth: 1 Gbit/s+
High availability: 99.9999%
CPU: 2x quad-core+ @ 2.80GHz+
RAM: 128GB RAM+
Disk: 2TB SSD+
Stargates are intended for high-connectivity environments: think data centers and high bandwidth office environments, and are designed to be single, powerful machines rather than a cluster of smaller, less powerful machines.

Wirehive
Wirehive delivers expert infrastructure consultancy and support for a broad portfolio of clients including Vodafone, Honda and ITV — and it will be offering DADI’s network as a decentralized alternative to AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.
NetWise
Netwise, a leading provider of server colocation and data centre services.
Netwise offers private facilities in London and throughout Europe, designed and built entirely in-house, and delivers end-user content on a national and international scale. It is also a pioneer in green colocation solutions, offering highly-efficient rack space powered by 100% renewable energy — an issue of equal importance to the DADI team.
Agorai
DADI is developing a marketplace proposition - a containerised service for approved partners that enables the running of third party software within the DADI network.
Agorai are working with DADI to deploy their technology in to the marketplace. They are also likely to use DADI API and Store for key components in their setup.
INDX
INDX are working with the DADI marketplace: an open container that is designed to run third party software. Specifically, DADI are working together with INDX to explore the potential for running their masternode setup within the DADI network. They are currently running in AWS.
blond
Blond creates contemporary products, spaces and digital experiences for a diverse range of brands, including Sony, LG, Revolut and Rapha. Blond are working on designs for dedicated DADI nodes. Think smart speakers and smart fridges (as one of the devs commented: DADI Cool) as well as other devices. One potential use case would be nodes that do not require staking, but would offset their own carbon emissions (more info to come on this).
The founding node design:

Verasity
DADI have integrated Verasity’s VeraPlayer with the DADI network. Verasity’s video toolkit (vDaf) allows existing online video services to access the benefits of blockchain technology.
DADI and Verasity in Times Sq.
London Block Exchange (LBX)
London Block Exchange (LBX) will be providing a fiat on/off ramp for customers of the DADI network and DADI making available its dApps including API, Web and CDN for use on the LBX ICO website. During its upcoming ICO in August, LBX will also make use of three key dApps from within the DADI marketplaceDADI API, DADI Weband DADI CDN. These applications will deliver optimal performance during the LBX ICO, plus the company is exploring the use of DADI technology for its exchange environments. This will also include a DADI-GBP pairing for the folks in the UK.

FAQ

Will DADI move to its own blockchain?
There are no plans to do this. There is also no mainnet swap.
Can I keep DADI Tokens on my Ledger or Trezor?
Yes, DADI is an ERC-20 token which can integrate with MEW.
What is the utility of the DADI token?
The DADI token is used by the consumers of the DADI web services to pay for requests on the network, regardless of whether they pay in another form of currency.
How does the Fiat on-ramp work? What is the Fiat on-ramp?
Individuals and businesses can pay for DADI services using fiat if they want to. This does not change the fact that our services are paid for in DADI: it simply means that there there will be a small real-time exchange in place on dadi.cloud, removing the barrier to entry that a purely crypto based payments solution would pose. It's no different in concept to a business heading to OKEx, buying tokens and then paying in DADI, other than it is faster and that it provides the experience that the majority of our potential consumer base expects at this point in time. Of course you will be able to buy our services in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Nano and many other currencies besides.
The amount of nodes compared to the amount of coins does not add up?
As consumer demand for the technology increases, the size of the network will need to increase. To support growth in capacity the requirement of POS will be reduced. The token value is the second factor that will be monitored and factored in to POS requirements. Some nodes will be allowed a limited increase for proof of stake without allowing for centralisation.
Can a Masternode be run on a VPS?
While running within VPS will not give you the same performance as running on bare metal, it will still be possible, yes.
As the ETH network is used for reputation management and accounting purposes we understand congestion is not a huge concern, but what point could it become a problem and what is the plan B?
The level of congestion required for this be an issue is huge - existential threat to Ethereum level.
DADI will monitor performance, but do not expect this to be an issue. If it ever was however, of course DADI would look to alternatives.
